    The Fifth Grade created books about themselves in Spanish last week. They brought their stories in to share with the some of the younger grades. They paired off and read their stories in Spanish first, then translated them in English. The younger children enjoyed learning some Spanish words and having the older kids read to them.

    The Second Grade has been observing the butterfly life cycle in their classroom to correlate with their unit on Insects. They have watched their four live caterpillars forms chrysalises then change into butterflies over the past three weeks. On Friday, they watched as the butterflies flew to freedom, during recess, to hopefully carry on the life cycle.

    The Second Grade visited the Krohn Conservatory Butterfly Show on Thursday, May 8th. They have been studying insects, including butterflies. This was a wonderful experience for the students to get an up-close look as these little creatures and to be able to point out what they have been learning about. The butterflies were very friendly and many students got to hold them.

    On April 30, seventh grade students traveled to Tanner's Creek in Guilford, IN to learn about the Ohio River watershed. Students collected and identified macroinvertebrates and ten different species of fish from Tanner's Creek. They also conducted six different water quality tests to determine the health of Tanner's Creek. Finally, students discussed the importance of the Ohio River watershed and steps they can take to protect it.

    Sixth graders extracted DNA from strawberries using common household items. The DNA looked like stringy cobwebs!

    The fourth grade class wanted to put their faith in action by serving others. As their Lenten almsgiving project, the class held a two day bake sale during lunch. With the help of their parents, who supplied the treats, the students sold hundreds of cookies, brownies, cupcakes, muffins, and cereal treats to other students, teachers, and staff members. They raised $216.50 to send to Matthew 25 Ministries.

    8th Graders made foam gnomes as a culminating activity for their chemical reactions unit.
